Raceline Cars Limited was among the first companies to spot the potential of the Zetec engine, and we remain convinced it has much to offer. In developing our range of Performance Engineered tuning packages and special components for the engine, we have found it to be extremely robust, durable, and efficient. It also responds extremely well to even modest tuning. In common with most modern engines, it is remarkably oil tight, a particular attraction to those still using the ageing Ford Crossflow. For all of those reasons, then, the Ford Zetec is the ideal basis for a modern high performance engine. The fact that it is manufactured in large numbers and is therefore available at modest cost, either new or second-hand, is another significant point in its favour.
Certainly Raceline's early faith has been fully vindicated as the engine is increasingly seen as a viable alternative to rival powerplants from Rover, Vauxhall and others. Then, during 1998, Ford introduced the World Rally Championship version of the Ford Focus (and signed Colin McRae to drive it) powered by a specially-developed turbocharged version of the Zetec, so giving the engine the motorsports pedigree it had previously lacked, and gaining even more kudos and credibility.
Raceline has developed a number of Performance Engineered components and tuning packages for the Zetec engine. Obviously, because it offers the most 'bang for buck', most of our conversions are based around the 2-litre version of the engine, but if for any reason you should wish to use a 1.6-litre or 1.8-litre version of the engine (in order to comply with class regulations for motor sport, for example), we are happy to discuss your requirements on an individual basis. For the sake of simplicity however, all subsequent references are for the 2-litre version of the engine.
